The 100 Black Men of Macon Middle Georgia CareerFest Project applies a hybrid Team Mentoring Program, which follows a classroom-mentoring program model that strives to:

  • Inspire and motivate students to do well in school

  • Expose students to various college and career options

  • Encourage students towards healthy and positive lives

  • Help students to create viable life plans and make good decisions

Mentors stress the importance of (S.T.E.M.) Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. We also collaborate with Regional GEAR-UP students, by talking to students about their jobs. The specific preparation is necessary for their jobs, whether college or other training was required to take that job, and most importantly, what students need to do in school to prepare for a successful life in the world of work. Additionally, mentors offer students advice on making good decisions about basic life choices.

We at The 100 Black Men of Macon Middle Georgia do all the work and scheduling; schools just give us a date and assign a contact person.

"What they see is what they'll be"

Desire to pursue higher education should not be extinguished due to lack of either funding or the college preparation that makes students better candidates for college acceptance. Over the years, The 100 Black Men of Macon Georgia, has invested considerable effort towards closing the achievement gap in academics between African American youth and their peers in other ethnic groups. Our college-prep initiatives address the quality and quantity of information, resources, and tools available to youth. We have provided free ACT/SAT practice exams, reduced-priced exam prep courses, college campus visitation, workshops on preparing for, and funding a college education. In addition we host the largest College Scholarship Fair targeting African American and Latino students in the Macon-Middle Georgia area, drawing busloads of students from 24 Central Georgia Counties as far as Dooley, Telfair, Jasper, Taylor, and Chatham Counties. Additionally, we collaborate with the Department of Juvenile Justice, and The Mentors Project that helps provide youth service.

Economic Empowerment

The 100 defines economic empowerment as the ability to be self determined in creating dreams, pursuing them and ultimately perpetuating them by establishing the mechanisms to sustain generational wealth. Program initiatives promote generationally economic self-sufficiency through financial literacy, family wealth building, and entrepreneurship.
